We drove past New Zealand’s tallest mountain, Mount Cook. We couldn’t see the top. It was covered in clouds.
At one point dad couldn’t find his phone. The man began to panic. He wondered if he’d left it at one of the rest stops. We pulled over to the side of the road and looked everywhere.
I found it! I’d placed it in my glove compartment. I’d completely forgotten. I deeply apologized.
We got to our final campsite of the trip. We were visited by some friendly ducks.
Dad had already been to this campsite when I was in Christchurch. He’d had a bad experience with some noisy people.
We were nervous that they might return. They never did, praise Christ.
I went on a really nice walk. It was peaceful. I got to a lake and meditated for a little while. I imagined seeing a UFO fly out from behind a mountain.
I was halfway up a flag pole when I first became familiar with real pain. It was a dark moment for my family and I.
