Independence Day

 July 9, 2024

Dad and I started our day pretty early. I was still exhausted. I was all messed up from the time change. I woke up at about 4:30 am and couldn’t get back to sleep.

Dad had planned for us to do a big walk. It was pretty interesting. It turned out that it was also Independence Day.

One of the main roads was closed for a big military parade. There were lots of people.

It was really cold. It’s the middle of winter here. I didn’t know it gets this cold here. It was like 1 degree in the morning.

We stopped at some cafe and had breakfast and coffee. I had French toast. It was so damn tasty. I moaned with great admiration. I fell to the floor in joy.

We walked through some gardens. They had all sorts of animals. There were giraffes, hippos, monkeys and lots more.

I saw so many men trynna fuck those poor creatures. I tried my best to defend them from the shadow of man.

We saw this really cool brutalist building. It was very tall. It looked like a table. It turned out to be a library. It was closed that day, maybe because it was a holiday. I want to go again before I leave.

I was really impressed with facades of all the buildings. They all look really European. It’s not at all what I was expecting. Every single building seems to have an interesting facade.

I was really getting tired about halfway through the day. I felt like I was sleep walking. We were really walking all over the place.

We checked out the famous obelisk. It’s at the centre of this massive boulevard. We went to the redeveloped Portlands. We walked along some old wharf.

We went out for dinner on that night. Canada was playing Argentina in a soccer game. We went to watch.

We were surprised to learn that Canada had won some games against other South American countries recently. I also thought that they were supposed to be horrible. Maybe the’ve improved in recent years.

They played pretty well during the first part of the game. I thought that they might score a few goals.

They never did unfortunately. I think the score came to 2-0 Argentina. We didn’t stay for the whole thing. I was pretty exhausted.

The town was rotting from within. It decayed and took the form of a warm teddy bear. I warned everyone. I told them not to be deceived.

The campers responded well to my message. They knew that I spat the truth. They packed up their gear and moved further inland. They nestled themselves amongst the mountains.

The townspeople seriously doubted me. They openly condemned my message. I was considered dangerous. I tried to reason with them.

The darkness set in. The clouds covered the town and darkness reigned. I had no choice but to leave. I followed the campers into the wilderness.

I felt sorry for the children in the town. They were innocent. They didn't deserve to be condemned. I prayed on their behalf. I begged for a silver lining.

The rivers rose and the earth shook. The town was bruised, beaten and bullied. I never saw the wreckage with my own eyes. I spoke with the survivors many years later.
