The Sacrifice

Jan 2, 2024

I’m in the hostel. It’s my last night here. Tomorrow is another 1-week road trip with dad.

When I get back I need to stay in a hostel for another 6 nights. I’m moving into my new place on January 16! They picked me! I checked out the room yesterday and it went really well. I liked the place a lot. There was even a Buddhist centre right across the street.

Today I was playing guitar in the park. Four kids came up to me . The oldest boy said ‘nice music’ followed by ‘we sacrificed this for you’. He handed me a pinecone and a green thing. I was sorta stunned. I had just been looking up the symbolism of pinecones 2 days before. This is what I had read: ‘Throughout the span of recorded human history, pinecones have been a symbol of human enlightenment, resurrection, eternal life and regeneration.’

I asked what the green thing was. He said it was a walnut. I said ‘thank you’ and then they left.

I looked up the symbolism of walnuts and found this: ‘Walnuts have been used to symbolize the importance of wisdom and discernment in many religious traditions over the centuries. Christianity values discernment as the means to develop awareness and understanding prior to taking action. Therefore, to practice discernment – we must possess wisdom.’
